No single Lawrence County criminal history portal contains every record. AlacourtACCESS / Just One Look is the broad court source for Circuit and District filings. The sheriff's inmate page shows current or recent custody cards, while an arresting agency keeps its own incident report. A subject-only Alabama history comes from ALEA through fingerprints. Municipal matters may remain with the city court that issued the citation.
Start with a full name and exact spelling. Add an approximate case, arrest, or filing date when asking an office for help. Then choose the slice that answers the question. A case outcome calls for a clerk record. Current custody calls for the jail. A statewide self-review calls for ALEA.

Four Lawrence Criminal Record Counters

A request for certified proof should go to the custodian of the underlying record. The clerk certifies court papers. The arresting agency supplies its report. ALEA returns the subject's fingerprint-linked statewide review.
Official Background Checks in Alabama
The public route to review one's own Alabama Criminal History Record Information, or CHRI, is the ALEA personal-review process. It requires Form 46, a classifiable fingerprint card from authorized law enforcement, a current photo ID, signatures before two witnesses or a notary, and a $25 cashier's check or money order. Each added copy is $5. The restricted Alabama Background Check System is not an open public people search.
Lawrence County residents can call the Sheriff's Office at (256) 974-2500 to ask whether public fingerprint capture is offered and to confirm hours, appointment rules, card supply, accepted ID, and any local fee. Those local details were not posted. The packet goes to ALEA in Montgomery by mail or hand delivery.
If the returned CHRI has a wrong or missing disposition, ALEA provides an Appendix A challenge route. Submit it within one year of reviewing the history. Identify the exact charge and outcome, date, arresting agency or court, the claimed error, and the correct information. Official supporting papers from the source agency or Lawrence County court matter because ALEA may refer the issue back to the originator. The review can take weeks or longer.

The Lawrence County Public Safety app adds verified communication tools for crime reports, tips, news, emergency shelters, closures, weather, and damage reports. Its official store description does not prove an active-warrant or records-search feature, and it is not a substitute for 911. Use the website, jail phone, or responsible records office for an actual record request.

Kinds of Criminal Records
A Lawrence County criminal history can be assembled only after the record type is clear. An incident report states what the arresting agency observed or received. Lawrence Jail, State, or Federal
The Lawrence County Detention Center holds people awaiting trial and people waiting for transfer to the Alabama Department of Corrections. Its official page reports an average population of 130, not a rated capacity. ADOC Inmate Search covers people currently in state custody and accepts an exact six-digit AIS number or a first and last name. It is updated daily and is not a historical county booking archive.
Local custody has more than a locator function. The detention center lists on-site medical care, a law library, adult education, work release for men and women, and roadside cleanup for qualifying nonviolent convicted people. Work-release participants are screened and housed in a dormitory setting. Earnings can support program costs, fines, restitution, child support, and reentry needs. Act 2024-320 formalized Lawrence County temporary release, work release, and community corrections rules.
Federal custody is separate. Lawrence County lies in the Northern District of Alabama, and federal cases use the federal court system. The Bureau of Prisons locator searches federal custody and release data.
A missing name in the county roster may mean release, transfer, a spelling mismatch, a feed failure, or no county booking. Check the correct custody layer before drawing a conclusion.
Lawrence County Criminal Records: What They Contain
Each Lawrence County criminal record exposes a different field set. The public booking cards inspected for the research showed fewer fields than a court file or fingerprint record. Match fields across sources with care. A booking charge can change when the prosecutor files a complaint or the grand jury acts, and the disposition can change the legal meaning again.
Lawrence Public Requests Need Routing
The County Commission's public-records form applies to Commission records. It should not be treated as the sheriff's report form. The sheriff is an independently elected custodian, and no official source says the Commission processes sheriff files. Call the Sheriff's Office and ask the chief clerk or custodian how to submit the exact incident, arrest, booking, or other request.
Commission requests go by mail to P.O. Box 307, Moulton, AL 35650, or in person at 12001 Alabama Highway 157, Annex 3 Suite A. The form says no phone requests and lists no email, fax, portal, or drop box. It asks for requester contact details, the records, the desired form of access, a reason, signature, and date.
Inspection may require citizen identification and an appointment with the County Administrator or Accountant. The county can limit simultaneous inspectors, bar food and drink, require inspection before copying, or provide copies instead of originals. Its policy also lists active investigations, sensitive personnel data, security plans, privileged litigation material, trade secrets, and some vehicle title or registration data among the records that may be restricted. Those Commission rules should not be assumed for the sheriff or clerk.

Alabama Public Access Laws
Alabama's public-writing rule supports inspection and copying, but it does not make every criminal-history item public online. Lawrence County active investigations, juvenile and youthful-offender material, victim and minor data, security details, expunged matters, and privileged supervision records can be restricted. Public access also depends on the custodian and record stage. An unserved Lawrence County arrest warrant is not public, while a served return may later become part of the court file.

A blank result may reflect a spelling issue, wrong court, filing lag, restricted case, municipal matter, or no match. The Lawrence Circuit Clerk remains the source for certified, older, or unavailable documents.
Federal dockets instead use PACER.
PACER requires registration and is not a substitute for the Lawrence County state trial-court file.
Restricted, Sealed & Expunged Records
Juvenile and youthful-offender records follow separate confidentiality rules. Active investigative reports and protected personal data may also be withheld. An Alabama expungement removes covered records from ordinary public access, but ALEA digitally archives protected copies and limited criminal-justice access can remain.
For a Lawrence County petition, obtain certified ALEA history and certified arrest or disposition records first. Use the current CR-65 petition, file in the Circuit Clerk's criminal division where the charge was filed, and serve the district attorney, arresting agency, and clerk. Later verification should use a new ALEA personal review plus the clerk or Just One Look. Alabama did not have an automatic statewide clean-slate system in the Lawrence research; relief remains petition-based.
Lawrence Warrants Stay Private Unserved
Lawrence County publishes no active-warrant database. The local magistrate page states that an arrest warrant is not public until served. Someone who suspects an outstanding warrant must appear in person at the Sheriff's Department. A phone call should not be presented as confirmation. A served warrant may later appear in the court file and Just One Look. Bench and failure-to-appear matters should be checked with the issuing county or municipal court. City-limit misdemeanors normally stay with the municipal channel unless tied to a felony or an extraordinary conflict.
City-by-City Criminal Records in Lawrence County
Moulton, Town Creek, and Courtland are Lawrence County's three largest incorporated cities by the official 2024 Census estimates. Each city has its own police and municipal route. A payment portal may locate a citation but does not replace the full city or county case file.
Moulton Record Check
Population 3,408. City Hall handles $5 MPD report pickup, and Municipal Court keeps city cases.
Town Creek Record Check
Population 1,055. Town Hall is the report starting point, with a separate citation search.
Courtland Record Check
Population 593. Police and Town Hall share the College Street starting point.
North Courtland and Hillsboro also have local channels, but the Phase B city set follows the research file's official top-three population ranking. Countywide Circuit and District cases still route through the Lawrence Circuit Clerk.
Lawrence Probation and Parole Records
Alabama supervision is state-run through the Alabama Bureau of Pardons and Paroles. The Moulton Field Office at 12441 Alabama Highway 157 serves Lawrence County, with posted hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. No public probation name search exists. Just One Look may show the sentence and later revocation filings, while ABPP routes parole eligibility, hearing, result, and release questions.

Lawrence County is within the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Alabama. Its Huntsville courthouse is at 660 Gallatin Street SW. Federal dockets and documents run through PACER, not Just One Look. Federal custody runs through the Bureau of Prisons locator, not the Lawrence jail roster or ADOC.
